More than halfway to the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), major advances in the fight against poverty and hunger have begun to slow or even reverse as a result of the global economic and food crises and threats from climate change. Anita will give a give a briefing on the Millennium Campaign and on opportunities to participate in the Stand Against Poverty mobilization.

On October 16-18, 2009, for the fourth year in a row, millions of people around the world will Stand Up and Take Action to show their support for the fight against poverty. Last October, 116 million people participated in over a thousand Stand Up events around the world. They again shattered the Guinness World Record for the largest number of people to take action for a social cause within a set time period. Participants register their events at www.standagainstpoverty.org.
